BRONZE ~ 2022 Halliday Cabernet and Chardonnay Challenge

93pts; “Great to see Chain of Ponds are persevering with Cabernet Sauvignon in the Adelaide Hills, although many of their neighbours have pulled it out long ago as it is not easy to get right in every vintage. But no such problem with the warm 2019 vintage which has crafted a wine with more than a nod to Coonawarra thanks to its leafy, choc-mint and cassis aromas with a dusting of dried herbs. It’s then quite elegant and balanced on the palate with more leafy dark fruits well supported by fresh acidity and supple tannins. It’s a very strong example of Adelaide Hills Cabernet from a good vintage. Enjoy with a hearty vegetable pie.” ~ Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot

AWARDS & ACCOLADES:
95/100; “This is solidly built with seductive complexity and multi-layered mouthfeel; the enticing bouquet shows crème de cassis, rich floral, cured meat and cigar box characters, followed by an impressively concentrated palate offering richness as well as refinement and sophistication. Firmly structured with chalky tannins, finishing superbly long and sturdy. At its best: now to 2036.” - Sam Kim, Wine Orbit

93/100; “Deep ruby with purple tones. Mulberry, mint, and cedar aromas. Dense and weighty black fruit fills the core, but a lift of fresh mint tones adds a liveliness to it. Tannins are firm but well-tuned to the fruit weight whilst a hint of acidity adds to the sense of vibrancy. All of this combines to an incredibly long and lingering finish. Still very youthful: time will see further characters build.” – Stuart Knox, The Real Review
