Kangaroo Island, discovered by Matthew Flinders in 1802 and settled by a band of renegades and escaped convicts, is located in the Southern Ocean. Romantic stories and legendary figures, such as “Governor Wally” who was the leader of the original band of renegades and “Fireball Bates” a red headed ships deserter, contribute to the history of Kangaroo Island and its unique culture.
