" On the palate there are very juicy red fruits and rounded plum and hints of ripe cherry. Good spiciness and a slight fragrant herb character balance out the fruit. On the back palate the fruit is integrated with good savouriness with flavours reminiscent of chestnut and cashew nut which add an extra layer of complexity. "

BARBERA
THE BARBERA GRAPE
Barbera is originally from the Piedmont region of Italy where it is the third most widely planted variety after Sangiovese and Montepulciano, but it is a relatively new variety in Australia. However it is rapidly finding a following amongst discerning wine consumers who are looking for something new and interesting. The grapes have fabulous colour, low tannins and high acidity and produce robust red wines, with intense cherry, blackberry and raspberry fruit characters, soft tannins and great aging potential.
THE STOPOVER STORY
In the early years Chain of Ponds played an important stopover role in the difficult trek across the ranges, linking Adelaide to Mannum and the colony’s lifeline, the River Murray.
